Brendan S. Maher
Brendan S. Maher has extensive appellate and litigation experience in a diverse array of subject areas including aviation, commercial tort, ERISA, government immunities, maritime, product liability, and securities.
In addition to his work with Mr. Stris before the United States Supreme Court, Mr. Maher has litigated significant civil appeals including PAB Aviation, Inc. v. United States, 169 Fed.Appx. 61, 2006 WL 461473 (2d Cir. 2006) (involving the scope of governmental immunity); Lockheed Martin Corp. v. Morganti, 412 F.3d 407 (2d Cir. 2005) (applying the Perini maritime employment doctrine), and Rein v. Mulroy, 2005 WL 1528870 (2d Cir. 2005) (construing terms of the $2.7 billion Pan Am Flight 103 litigation settlement).
Mr. Maher has also resolved numerous matters in federal and state trial courts, including negotiating a seven figure settlement in an insurance fraud case involving the sale of sham insurance policies by a bankrupt insurance company, securing a confidential settlement against a multi-billion dollar manufacturer in a commercial tort case involving fiduciary breach and trade secret misappropriation, and playing a lead role on the legal team that successfully opposed the aviation defendants’ motions to dismiss plaintiffs’ claims in the high-profile litigation over the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Mr. Maher is a graduate of the Harvard Law School, where he was an Ames Moot Court Competition Finalist and a recipient of the Boykin C. Wright Memorial Award for appellate advocacy. Mr. Maher received his A.B. in Philosophy and in Economics from Stanford University, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa.
